Optical sorter OS t

PETKUS OptoSelector OS t — “see more than you can see” with transmission optics

The OS t is the first PETKUS sorter to fuse classic RGB colour and geometry analysis with infrared and a unique transmission/density measurement. By analysing light that passes through each kernel, the OS t uncovers internal defects that reflective cameras miss, delivering up to 99% sorting quality in a single pass. This expands applications from conventional colour defects to tasks like identifying contaminated vs. clean maize, detecting diseased or damaged paddy rice, and distinguishing soft wheat from durum—all while maintaining gentle handling from inlet to outlet.

A software-controlled, high-intensity LED system provides precise focusing and perfectly homogenised illumination across the full working width. Setup is fast with TeachNSort: operators simply mark good and bad images; the sorter learns thresholds and takes over decisions. High-precision ejector nozzles remove defects accurately, reducing good-kernel loss. Built and engineered in Germany, the OS t features sealed optics boxes with automatic camera cleaning, a coated chute, quick sampling access, and a Windows-based platform for easy networking and remote support to optimise performance.

Key advantages

  • Multi-modal sensing: Transmission, RGB, geometry, IR for deeper defect detection and density-based decisions.

  • First-pass performance: up to 99% sorting quality with low false rejects.

  • TeachNSort intelligence: minimal parameter input—label samples and the OS t completes the setup.

  • Uniform lighting: high-performance LEDs with software control, precise focus, and full-width homogenisation.

  • Accurate rejection: fine, fast nozzle array targets only the bad grains.

  • Robust, gentle design: vibrating feeder, advanced-coated chute, sealed optics with auto cleaning, easy maintenance, quick sampling.

  • Connected & supported: Windows-based HMI, simple network integration, optional remote support for tuning and uptime.

Typical applications: maize, paddy rice, pulses, wheat (soft vs. durum differentiation), soybean.
